Artist Biography

“Individual perspective is the only way one can see the world, it is only natural that art reflects just that.”    -Michael Perzinski

Growing up in the midwest, a land of lonely places with random human disruption, the unexpected creates Michael’s story.

From an early age Michael took refuge in painting and drawing. In adolescence his awareness of society began to broaden, and the 80’s pop/punk culture had a significant impact on his developing world view. Exposure to inequality and injustice allowed Michael to give in to raw emotion and find purpose in the “uncomfortable”.

After marrying Karin Doran in 1994, and the birth of their two children, Drew and Fayth, Michael’s world view and reality again shifted. The growth of his family and the inclusion in his in-law’s global travels allowed him to deepen his perspective.

With no formal training besides photography classes at a local community college, his day job doing trim carpentry drove him out into his “studio”. Family trips to Ireland and New Mexico awoke a curiosity and voice through photography. From 35mm to digital, Michael has a large archive of meditative moments, landscapes, city scapes and places reclaimed by nature and time.

Michael sees our past in his photography. A past close to our own reality, so familiar, yet haunting and maybe worth a second glance. Michael removes the gloss to reveal a view of the impact we have on the present.   S.Z.
